    The Hays Code, Our Constitution and What’s Right

    by Chuck Diaz

    Back in the beginning days of Hollywood movies there was a Code, The Motion Picture Production Code of 1930 (Hays Code), that required filmmakers to follow certain standards when producing a film that would be shown to American audiences. It was actually put into effect around 1933.

    From Wiki, “Many felt the movie industry had always been morally questionable.[3] Political pressure was increasing, with legislators in 37 states introducing almost one hundred movie censorship bills in 1921. Faced with the prospect of having to comply with hundreds, and potentially thousands, of inconsistent and easily-changed decency laws in order to show their movies, the studios chose self-regulation as the preferable option.”

    ” The Motion Picture Production Code was the set of industry moral censorship guidelines that governed the production of most United States motion pictures released by major studios from 1930 to 1968. It is also popularly known as the Hays Code, after Hollywood’s chief censor of the time.”

    Whether you personally agree with it or not is not what I would like to discuss. Instead I would like to discuss why it seems that Hollywood can’t make a movie without breaking multiple or all the codes listed below.

    Read it, you’ll think it’s an outline for a what’s required in a Hollywood movie today.

    “Resolved, that those things which are included in the following list shall not appear in pictures produced by the members of this Association, irrespective of the manner in which they are treated:

    1. Pointed profanity – by either title or lip – this includes the words “God”, “Lord”, “Jesus”, “Christ” (unless they be used reverently in connection with proper religious ceremonies), “hell”, “damn”, “Gawd”, and every other profane and vulgar expression however it may be spelled;
    2. Any licentious or suggestive nudity – in fact or in silhouette; and any lecherous or licentious notice thereof by other characters in the picture;
    3. The illegal traffic in drugs;
    4. Any inference of sex perversion;
    5. White slavery;
    6. Miscegenation (sex relationships between the white and black races);
    7. Sex hygiene and venereal diseases;
    8. Scenes of actual childbirth – in fact or in silhouette;
    9. Children’s sex organs;
    10. Ridicule of the clergy;
    11. Willful offense to any nation, race or creed;

    And be it further resolved, that special care be exercised in the manner in which the following subjects are treated, to the end that vulgarity and suggestiveness may be eliminated and that good taste may be emphasized:

    1. The use of the flag;
    2. International relations (avoiding picturizing in an unfavorable light another country’s religion, history, institutions, prominent people, and citizenry);
    3. Arson;
    4. The use of firearms;
    5. Theft, robbery, safe-cracking, and dynamiting of trains, mines, buildings, etc. (having in mind the effect which a too-detailed description of these may have upon the moron);
    6. Brutality and possible gruesomeness;
    7. Technique of committing murder by whatever method;
    8. Methods of smuggling;
    9. Third-degree methods;
    10. Actual hangings or electrocutions as legal punishment for crime;
    11. Sympathy for criminals;
    12. Attitude toward public characters and institutions;
    13. Sedition;
    14. Apparent cruelty to children and animals;
    15. Branding of people or animals;
    16. The sale of women, or of a woman selling her virtue;
    17. Rape or attempted rape;
    18. First-night scenes;
    19. Man and woman in bed together;
    20. Deliberate seduction of girls;
    21. The institution of marriage;
    22. Surgical operations;
    23. The use of drugs;
    24. Titles or scenes having to do with law enforcement or law-enforcing officers;
    25. Excessive or lustful kissing, particularly when one character or the other is a “heavy“.”

    Personally, I think the entire code should be re-enforced in its entirety and maybe add some more to it. Maybe it would entice Hollywood to actually think before they make a movie.

    When I think of all the great movies that were made before the code started to fizzle out I find it incredible that so few are made today. It seems every film must have its fuck scene and kissing must include deep throated tongues and a lot of noise. I’ve been there and done all that, as most of you have, and it gets very boring to me. It shouldn’t be needed by a good story line.

    The killing, violence and charges made against our country, our church and our police is making everyone numb to the real world. They hate America. The political use made by Hollywood challenges everything that Goebbels made in Germany for propaganda.

    We must admit Hollywood is propaganda and insist that it not take any political side by what ever means necessary.

    I know what you are all saying, but it doesn’t matter. We must save this country by any means necessary and we can’t allow the left to win the war we are in.

    I take the words on the Speak Up America banner above very seriously:

    “Dedicated to the return to the constitution as written by our forefathers, The return of common sense in our laws, the return of morality in our Decisions, and the proliferation of environmental truth.”

    To return to the constitution as written by our forefathers we have to change the one that has been created through a misunderstanding the people have had over the years since the civil war. There are amendments our forefathers would have never considered and they would especially not allow these words:

    Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”

    I don’t think they would have ever considered those words to be attached to any amendment, EVER! Almost all starting with the 13th Amendment have those words and if you have any understanding of the intent our founders had, you would understand those words are 180 degrees totally opposite of what our founders had in mind as a basic tenant of our Constitution. Limited Government authority!

    Yes the uninformed People allowed for it to be wrongly inserted into some of the amendments, but that’s because they were bamboozled.

    So, it must be set right and if doing so is called an act of socialism or communism, so be it. If defending honor, dignity, truth, pride in America and our Constitution is going to be called dictatorial, then call me Mr. Dictator, but there are still Constitutional ways to fix the problem and we should fix the problem.

    It would be doing What’s Right.
